The most brutal car I ever drove was a 79 Camaro. It had a 427 big block but sadly no stealth mode. In fact it was the exact opposite of stealthy.

Ye’, I’ve been reading and finding out new stuff off and on over the last couple of years. It’s just so incredibly interesting.
So much smoke and daggers, and being a spy in plain site.
I also found the British U2 spy plane history interesting in that the U.S. had agreed not to spy on Russia, so the CIA paid eight (one died and was replaced) RAF airmen with consent f rom the British government and MI6. They were briefed that if they were caught, they were on their own.
I can’t find the old pages as it’s been a few months since I last read any info on it.

Something I find quite extraordinary is that in spite of the Cold War there was still pretty much a spirit of “us” (the Soviets and the Brits) against “them” (the Germans, or, more specifically, the East Germans). In fact one gets the idea that the most dangerous part of the BRIXMIS “tours” was not so much dealing with the Sovs, but with the GDR’s security and military apparatus.
I read something similar about Canberra spy flights. I wonder whether they were the same outfit.

I think there was a shared distrust of the G ermans from the British, Americans and the Russians, but at the same time there was a great distrust from the British and Americans of the Russians.
Sort of we distrusted the Russians, but needed them when we wanted and vice versa because of our distrust of the Germans.
But it’s surprising just how much the British and Americans worked together on everything. Some we’ll never know about.
